Vacuum-truck tank volume and useful suction performance are separate buying questions. A large tank does not establish how the system handles the intended material through the required hose and elevation. Provide the equipment supplier with the actual task, then compare the complete installation at a defined duty point.
Specify the complete collection cycle
Before you approve the quotation: Ask for permitted materials and a performance response for the exact hose, elevation and duty. A pump airflow label is not a material transfer rate, and geometric tank volume does not establish usable capacity.

What the purchasing team needs to resolve
Identify the material, relevant solids and contaminants, access distance, lift conditions and receiving process. The supplier should state permitted materials and limitations. Airflow figures measured under a particular vacuum-pump condition are not automatically a liquid-removal rate at the end of a long hose. Use the equipment’s application data and competent selection process.
Separate filling time from the complete job cycle. Setup, repositioning, transport, emptying and required cleaning may dominate the service period. Include usable rather than merely geometrical tank capacity, and account for material mass and axle limits. Hazardous or otherwise specialised materials require the appropriate system and destination-specific assessment; a generic vacuum-truck description cannot establish that suitability.
Make the buying trade-off explicit
| Decision | Alternative A | Alternative B | Buyer’s evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tank basis | Nominal volume | Usable capacity under the approved duty | Supplier limits and mass account |
| Performance claim | Pump free-air figure | Task-specific system capability | Material, hose and lift conditions |
| Cycle boundary | Suction time only | Setup, transport, emptying and cleaning | Time-stamped work sequence |
| Material scope | Any liquid or sludge | Explicit accepted and excluded materials | Manufacturer and operator confirmation |
| Acceptance | Empty pump runs | Agreed representative application evidence | Competent test and recorded conditions |
A worked buying example
Illustrative assumptions; not a supplier quotation, an approved design or a machine rating.
Assume seven usable cubic metres and a fictional measured transfer rate of 3.5 m³/hour for one defined material and setup. Filling takes two hours. If setup, transport and discharge add one more hour, the simple complete-cycle output is about 2.33 m³/hour. The figures are not pump ratings and cannot be transferred to another material, hose arrangement or lift condition without the supplier’s assessment.
What to freeze before manufacture
Send the full application description with the enquiry and require the supplier to state the conditions behind its performance response. Agree a competent acceptance method that represents the relevant material and setup. Keep the tank, pump, controls and vehicle limits in the same system record. At handover, provide the approved operating, inspection and disposal interfaces rather than leaving the receiving team to infer them from a pump brochure.
Questions to send with the enquiry
- What material, hose reach and lift conditions define the task?
- What does the quoted pump performance actually measure?
- What usable tank and vehicle mass limits apply?
- What complete-cycle and representative application evidence will be supplied?
Send Auto From China your enquiry, including your destination, operating brief and the answers above. We can work with manufacturers to compare the relevant vehicle or machinery configuration and identify the items that still need written confirmation.
