Factory right-hand drive should be discussed as a specific production configuration. It is not enough for a Chinese commercial-vehicle supplier to say that right-hand drive is possible. A buyer needs to establish which model, wheelbase, powertrain and destination documentation can be supplied in that arrangement, and under what order conditions.
Order the factory derivative explicitly
Before you approve the quotation: We support enquiries for both LHD and factory-built RHD new vehicles through manufacturer relationships. Availability, production quantity, lead time and destination suitability must be confirmed for the exact OEM derivative; an LHD photograph does not establish RHD supply.

The engineering and commercial decision
Start with the actual operating brief and request an OEM configuration reference. Steering position interacts with items such as driver controls, access arrangements and the location of body controls. The factory and body builder should confirm the final combination. A left-hand-drive stock photograph can illustrate a product family, but it does not prove that the required factory RHD derivative is available.
Separate sourcing capability from an unconditional availability promise. Relationships with manufacturers can help obtain a production proposal, clarify a minimum order or explore a suitable variant. They do not replace written confirmation of the derivative, lead time and destination approval path. Keep those conditions visible before a deposit becomes tied to an unsuitable specification.
Record what changes between the offers
| Decision | Alternative A | Alternative B | Buyer’s evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identity | General model name | Factory derivative and build code | OEM-backed configuration sheet |
| Steering proof | Stock catalogue photograph | Evidence of the ordered RHD version | Relevant build record and inspection views |
| Body integration | LHD layout reused | RHD controls and access reviewed | Approved completed-vehicle layout |
| Commercial basis | Unqualified availability statement | Quantity, lead time and change conditions | Written production proposal |
| Destination basis | Steering side alone | Exact version and approval route | Importer and authority confirmation |
A worked buying example
Illustrative assumptions; not a supplier quotation, an approved design or a machine rating.
Assume a fleet needs 12 vehicles, but a proposed RHD derivative is subject to a minimum production order of 20. The eight additional units are a commercial gap to resolve, not a reason to describe the 12-unit order as confirmed. Compare a manufacturer-approved alternative, a consolidated production arrangement or another model against the real duty. The quantities are illustrative; no minimum order is asserted for any manufacturer.
Agree the acceptance record
The purchase record should identify factory-built RHD explicitly and list the derivative, quantity condition, body arrangement and destination evidence. Define which changes require the buyer’s written approval. At inspection, use a vehicle-specific view of the controls, identification plates and body interfaces rather than accepting a photograph of another truck. Keep the unresolved items open until the responsible manufacturer or importer has supplied the necessary confirmation.
Questions to send with the enquiry
- What is the factory RHD derivative or configuration reference?
- Are the required wheelbase, powertrain and body available together?
- What quantity and production conditions apply to this proposal?
- Who confirms destination eligibility for the completed vehicle?
Send Auto From China your enquiry, including your destination, operating brief and the answers above. We can work with manufacturers to compare the relevant vehicle or machinery configuration and identify the items that still need written confirmation.
