Compactor Garbage Trucks: Bins, Collection Routes and Payload

Special Vehicles

A body-volume figure is only one part of a refuse-collection enquiry. The vehicle must also match the waste stream, bins, access, collection cycle and the complete vehicle’s available loading allowance.

01Collection system

Name the waste, bin types and pickup method.

02Route and loading

Review access, cycles and complete vehicle mass.

03Working equipment

Confirm lifter, compactor, containment and support.

Define the waste stream and collection method

Describe the material being collected, typical moisture, loose density if known and any excluded waste. State whether the operation uses household bins, commercial containers, bagged collection or another loading system. Collection equipment should be proposed for the identified waste and handling method.

Record bin capacities and, more importantly, their actual dimensions, lifting interface and normal loaded condition. Send photographs or a drawing of the bins already in use. A volume label such as “240-litre bin” does not by itself identify every mounting or handling detail required by a lifter.

Match the lifter and body as one working system

Request the body builder, model, usable body volume, hopper arrangement, compaction system and bin-lifting equipment. Name the lifting interface and the supported containers in the written offer. Identify any adapters, controls and accessories that are needed for the buyer’s existing bins.

FAUN’s VARIOPRESS reference illustrates how a refuse body can have different lifter and equipment options. It is a technical comparison reference, not a body specification or supplier relationship claimed for our Chinese vehicle proposal. The offered builder must confirm the exact system.

Use body capacity and finished payload separately

Ask for the complete vehicle mass and applicable gross, axle and tyre limits with the body, lifter and supplied equipment included. Identify how occupants, fuel, tools and liquids are counted in that mass basis. The available waste load can be constrained before the nominal body volume is fully used.

If a compaction ratio is quoted, ask how it is defined and which waste/test conditions support it. Do not multiply a catalogue ratio by body volume and call the result a universal collection capacity. Real waste composition, collection practice and the complete vehicle loading limits need their own review.

Describe the route and containment requirements

Give stops per shift, travel to the unloading point, road width, turning spaces, gradients, surface and clearance constraints. Include collection-team requirements and the intended unloading arrangement. These details help select the chassis and body dimensions, controls and operating cycle.

Ask how liquid leakage, hopper/tailgate sealing, wash-down access and the applicable collection-system protections are addressed. Specify any camera, lighting or warning equipment required in the proposed configuration. Request the builder’s safe operating instructions and operator-training scope instead of assuming these are covered by a generic “standard equipment” line.

Agree inspection and component support

Identify the exact chassis model, factory LHD/RHD, body and equipment in one technical schedule. Auto From China reviews both steering-side new-vehicle enquiries through its manufacturer relationships, with the specific export build and quantity confirmed separately. The importer should check the proposed configuration and documents for its destination and use.

Agree inspection of identities, dimensions, supplied lifter interfaces and relevant functions under the manufacturer’s procedures. Request body and hydraulic-system manuals, an identified wear-parts package and clear chassis/body/equipment warranty responsibilities. Collection downtime should be considered when choosing initial spares and local service arrangements.

Put these items in the enquiry

Procurement item Information to provide or confirm
Waste stream Material, moisture, density basis and exclusions
Bins Actual dimensions, lifting interface, loaded condition and photos/drawings
Body system Body/hopper, compaction definition, lifter, controls and options
Loading allowance Finished mass basis, gross/axle/tyre limits and relevant liquids
Collection duty Stops, access, gradients, disposal journey and containment needs
Handover Functional evidence, operating manuals, training, spares and warranty parties

A contractor’s bin-interface and route acceptance file

For a Ghana contractor enquiry, attach the actual bin dimensions, interface drawings, collection points and disposal route. Require the body supplier to identify compatible bins, operating instructions, completed mass and payload definitions for the exact vehicle. The country name does not determine the bin standard or local waste density.

Define an agreed factory demonstration using identified bins and a suitable controlled site under manufacturer instructions. Record the vehicle, body, bin interface, ordinary controls, included tools and documents. Keep unresolved compatibility or support items on an exception list with the responsible party and acceptance condition; do not infer acceptance from a promotional loading video.

Questions buyers ask

Does a 6–8 m³ body establish the waste payload?

No. Body volume, compaction characteristics, waste density and the complete vehicle mass are different inputs. Request the offered body specification and permitted loading basis.

What bin details does the body builder need?

Provide bin types, dimensions, lifting interface, typical mass and the collection pattern. Ask the builder to confirm the supplied lifter and operating compatibility.

How should the collection route be described?

Include stops, daily volume or mass, gradients, access restrictions, road surface, unloading site and shift duration. These inputs support a complete chassis and body review.

What should be included with the hydraulic equipment?

Identify the power source, pump, controls, operating instructions, maintenance points and agreed functions. Request the actual equipment schedule instead of assuming it from body volume.

Can a reference photograph identify the quoted chassis?

No. A type-reference photograph shows the application. The quotation must state the chassis, wheelbase, body, lifter and equipment codes for the offered vehicle.

What checks belong in project acceptance?

Agree identity and drawing checks, body and lifter functions, document handover, mass assumptions and training scope. Assign the reviewer and record exceptions before shipment release.
