Tyres and ballast belong in the working configuration. Give the manufacturer the implement and load information so that its recommendation refers to the proposed tractor combination, rather than selecting weights or pressures from a generic rule.
Identify implements, loaders and transport loads.
Confirm actual tyres, rims and approved combinations.
Request model-specific guidance and included hardware.
Describe every significant load case
List the heaviest rear-mounted implement, any loader, trailer work and the main field operation. Give implement mass, centre-of-gravity information and connection details when available. State the terrain, soil condition, road use and annual hours. The manufacturer needs the complete combination to assess the proposed equipment.
Separate field-work and transport configurations. A load carried by an implement or loader can change axle loading and balance. Provide drawings or photographs of existing attachments and ask which configuration changes need a new review. Engine horsepower does not describe those loading conditions.
Name the tyres and rims in the quotation
Request tyre manufacturer/model, sizes, construction, load and speed information, rim specification and the relevant tyre guidance for the actual load case. Include the approved front/rear combination on a four-wheel-drive tractor. Avoid accepting only “agricultural tyres” as a complete equipment description.
Ask for the tractor and tyre suppliers’ instructions on load, pressure and speed for the proposed use. This article does not prescribe a universal inflation pressure. Identify the supplied tyres first and use their guidance together with the tractor manual and the actual loading conditions.
Distinguish ballast position from total added mass
Ballast at the wheels, front or rear attachment points has different geometry. Request a model-specific proposal showing type, location, mass and mounting hardware for the stated implements. Ask how it affects the relevant axle and tyre loads, overall mass and field or transport configuration.
YANMAR’s loader example explains how a rear counterweight can influence weight distribution. It supports asking about the complete load case; it is not a ballast recipe for a YTO, Zoomlion or LOVOL tractor. Those machines need their own manufacturer assessment.
Check what the proposed package includes
List weights, brackets, fixing hardware, installation and any special preparation separately. If liquid ballast is proposed, ask the manufacturer or tyre supplier to define the compatible materials, wheel/tyre arrangement, installation responsibility and service instructions. Do not substitute a local practice for written guidance on the delivered equipment.
Include wheel-track settings, clearances and transport width in the confirmation where relevant. Ask whether configuration changes are permitted and who will perform them. A tyre substitution or ballast addition can affect more than one item in the agreed working configuration.
Keep the recommendations with the handover pack
Request the tractor manual, tyre information, approved equipment configuration and the manufacturer’s written recommendation for the identified implements. Ask the supplier to show the fitted tyre identities and included ballast items during inspection. Keep those records with the machine’s model and serial information.
Prepare a parts and support list that covers tyre replacement availability, wheel components and ballast hardware as applicable. If the supplier cannot yet confirm the required load case, keep it as an open technical item in the quotation instead of filling the gap with an assumed weight or pressure.
Put these items in the enquiry
| Item | Information to confirm |
|---|---|
| Working loads | Tractor, implements/loader, mass, geometry and transport use |
| Tyres and rims | Manufacturer/model, sizes, construction, load/speed information and rim identities |
| Drive combination | Approved front/rear tyres and applicable tractor requirements |
| Ballast | Manufacturer recommendation, location, mass, hardware and configuration |
| Evidence | Manuals, fitted identities, relevant load guidance and support responsibilities |

Questions buyers ask
Why is a tyre size alone insufficient?
Confirm the tyre specification, rim, load and speed conditions and intended soil or surface. Review the combination using the tractor manufacturer’s instructions and the actual operating duty.
Can ballast be selected from engine horsepower?
Horsepower does not define the complete ballast requirement. Ask for guidance for the actual implement, traction conditions and load distribution, while respecting equipment limits.
What changes when the tractor moves between field and road?
Describe both duties and their loads, speeds and distances. Request the applicable tyre and ballast instructions for those conditions and identify any changes required between tasks.
Should every tractor receive the same wheel weights?
No. Record implement geometry, mounted or trailed arrangement, traction needs and the proposed tractor version. Confirm permissible ballast and attachment methods with the manufacturer.
Which measurements help a supplier review the package?
Provide the exact tractor and implement identities, working mass, axle or loading information where available, tyre and rim details, soil and route. Mark any unknown measurements for confirmation.
What belongs in the written quotation?
List supplied tyres, rims, ballast components, installation, operating instructions and exclusions. Ask the supplier to explain the matching basis and handover checks for the offered package.
