Buying a Tractor from China: PTO, Hitch and Hydraulic Matching

A tractor and implement should be selected as a working combination. Engine horsepower is only one part of the decision. PTO speed, shaft connection, hitch geometry, lifting capacity, hydraulics, tractor mass and field conditions all affect whether the equipment is a suitable match.

Prepare these details before requesting a quote

Decision Information to prepare
Field task Crop, soil, terrain, working depth, width, operating hours and demanding implement
PTO connection Required speed, power, shaft / spline and engagement method
Hitch and hydraulics Category, geometry, stated lift measuring point, flow, pressure and couplers
Working combination Implement mass, tractor stability, tyres, ballast, operator equipment and spares

1. Describe the field task

State the crop, soil type, terrain, area to cover, working depth and desired width. Give expected annual operating hours and the most demanding implement. Include transport work and any public-road use separately. Wet soil, slopes, stones and heavy attachments create different requirements from light utility work on level ground.

For a dealer or machinery-service fleet, describe the implements that customers already use. A tractor that cannot connect to the local equipment creates extra cost even if its engine power looks suitable.

2. Check PTO speed and connection

Ask for the PTO speeds available on the offered export version, the shaft diameter and spline, rated PTO capability and the implement’s requirements. Confirm how the PTO is engaged and which operating instructions apply. Use the tractor and implement manuals together.

Published model references show why version-level checking matters. Zoomlion’s RK754 page lists 540/540E r/min, while LOVOL’s published M754 version lists 540/1000 r/min. Those are manufacturer reference values for specific published versions, not interchangeable specifications or a statement that either is correct for every implement.

3. Compare hitch and lift on the same basis

Confirm the three-point hitch category, mounting dimensions, linkage travel and implement clearance. Request the lifting capacity with its measuring point clearly stated. Capacity at the hitch and capacity measured behind the hitch should not be treated as the same number.

The published RK754 reference gives a Category 2 hitch and 20.3 kN maximum lift at 610 mm behind the hitch. The published M754 reference gives Category 2 and 1,300 kg at 610 mm. Use the actual manufacturer sheets and load/geometry conditions when comparing an offered machine; these values do not by themselves approve an attachment.

4. Identify hydraulic requirements

For implements that use hydraulic functions, define flow, pressure, the number of independent circuits, valve functions and connector types. Ask whether published flow is total system flow or the flow available to the remote connection. A large-looking flow figure may use a different measurement basis from the implement requirement.

Include hoses, adapters and controls explicitly in the quotation if they are required. Confirm the manufacturer’s connection and operation instructions rather than relying on a generic accessory photograph.

5. Match traction, stability and operator equipment

Identify drive layout, tyres, ballast and implement mass. Ask the manufacturer to assess the proposed attachment and field task using its operating guidance. State whether a cab or protection structure is required, the desired controls and the service environment.

A machinery enquiry should use operator layout, protection, PTO and hitch specifications. It should not be forced into passenger-car steering-side, fuel-economy or battery fields. Farm transport and utility vehicles should retain their own load and intended-use checks.

6. Include support and transport in the offer

Request the exact engine identity, service manual, maintenance schedule, filters, belts, wear items and an initial spares package. List the tractor, each implement and all accessories separately. Confirm packing dimensions, transport preparation and the agreed handover checks.

The available export and destination documents should refer to the supplied machine. The buyer should verify the local import and intended-use requirements before ordering. Production and shipping timing are confirmed for the actual configuration and quantity.

Send a machinery matching brief

Destination and port; quantity; crop/soil/terrain; operating hours; tractor or implement details; PTO speed/shaft; hitch; hydraulics; and preferred operator equipment. This helps the manufacturer assess a complete working combination.

A horsepower comparison that preserves the PTO duty

Compare the offered implement first. The cited YTO EMF554X and NLX904-1 tables list 540/1000 rpm PTO references, whereas the Zoomlion RK754 reference lists 540/540E rpm. An economy 540 mode should not be presented as a 1000 rpm option. Confirm the actual shaft, spline, engagement and power requirement against the supplied manuals.

A lift rating at the linkage pivot and a rating measured behind the hitch describe different geometry. Put the measuring point, conditions and implement centre of gravity beside each rating. Obtain the manufacturer’s assessment of ballast, tyres, stability and transport clearance before using a lift-force number as an implement-weight allowance.

Questions buyers ask

Why is engine horsepower not a complete implement match?

The implement can also depend on PTO speed and connection, linkage geometry, lift capacity, hydraulics, traction and ballast. Review all required interfaces for the actual tractor and implement.

What PTO information should be exchanged?

Identify required speed, connection and operating duty from the implement instructions, then request the tractor’s supplied PTO specification. Do not combine specifications from different market versions.

Does a hitch category establish lifting capability?

No. Category identifies an interface family; the lift figure has its own measurement position and conditions. Request implement mass and geometry and the tractor’s applicable lift information.

Which hydraulic details belong in the schedule?

List required functions, connections and operating conditions, including flow and pressure information from the implement manufacturer. Have the supplier identify which tractor circuits and outlets meet those needs.

How should unknown interface information be handled?

List it as a confirmation item and obtain manufacturer drawings, measurements or manuals. Keep the matching conclusion open until the actual supplied versions are identified.

What should be confirmed before shipment?

Review the paired model schedule, interface information, agreed adjustments, packing, manuals, arrival assembly and acceptance checks. Include the selected tyres, ballast and initial spares where applicable.
